Give Your Friends Credit
This was inspired by Robert Plank's Black Hat PHP ebook.
So you know, I am working on increasing my online exposure. Part of the way I am doing that is giving away some of my stuff - show you what I can do. If you have been a regular reader of this site, you know that I am creating a database driven affiliate web site that I am going to give away (how to you get a free site, you ask? Use the signup form and get on my mailing list).
Additionally, I have recently added a feature that gives you the possibility of making money from this site.
If you refer people to this site and they either signup or purchase one of my products that I sell on Clickbank - you can get credit using a special link to direct visitors here.

Send people to this site using the following link: http://www.davewooding.com/visit/cb_aff
Replace the cb_aff with your ClickBank affiliate id (IMPORTANT: do NOT put a trailing slash (/) at the end or it won't work)
Your affiliate link will show up in the autoresponder:

Any emails I sent out for a product of mine will have your affiliate id embedded.
Also any product that I sell off of this page via Clickbank (yes, there is a product for sale):

If you are familiar with looking at the html code, go look at it now - see if the html code looks similar to what I just showed you. If not, type in this link in your brower's address bar, http://www.davewooding.com/visit/cb_aff (replace the cb_aff with your affiliate id).
So there, I have come clean with my intentions - I'm looking to increase my online exposure and am willing to pay for it!

I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you.

Dave
I think your honesty and willingness to help people will pay dividends for you - both in terms of traffic and reputation.
Looking forward to the next database site build instructions.

Dave,
Great stuff and very generous. I offer something similar on my blog, but you have to sign up as an affiliate to benefit. I really like the simplicity of this system though. I must checkout Robert's book.
Thanks again for the great information

Does this BLACK HAT PHP method set a cookie where if the visitor returns we still GET CREDIT?
Or does the affiliate link only work if they access the site with the encoded link at click a link on your site on that visit?
I am looking forward to your next post on how you are developing the database driven affiliate site!

Dave, thanks for putting my Black Hat PHP book into action.
But you should know that I have a canned PHP script called JV Plus -- http://dwooding.jvplus.com -- that does even more than I showed in that book.
All you'd have to do to customize that autoresponder form would be to do...
input type="hidden" name="custom_cbaff" class="jvplus-rebrand" value="xxxxx"
And the script would do the rest.
Enabling the links is even easier, you edit a config file and say I want all links to linktator2.com to be changed to xxxxx.linktator2.com
What makes using the script super-fun is, when you post comments on peoples' blogs, you can post links specific pages on your blog with your friend's affiliate ID built in.

D'oh... looking at your blog to my blog it looks like you figured it out already! I'm dumb! p.s. could you change the links in my above comment from davewooding.jvplus to dwooding.jvplus ... remembered your Clickbank ID incorrectly.

@Brian,
Question: Does this BLACK HAT PHP method set a cookie where if the visitor returns we still GET CREDIT?
Answer: Yep, it sure does. You just need to get the person to the site once, then they are cookied.

Hey Mr. PLANK!
If you have time to read this blog, please take the time to read the two emails I sent you about JVPlus with some ideas for adding real value to that script.
Seesh! and I am a paying customer!

[...] Get a Free Database Driven Website - David Wooding emailed me and asked me to promote his competition that offers to give affiliates a database driven website. It’s not something that I need right now so I didn’t look into it myself but I said I’d mention it so check it out if that is something you are interested in. [...]

Brian, I replied to your email and you replied with the exact same message.
I'll go reply to it again...

Robert, I will go look for the email and see what happened. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Hi Dave.... great job on your blog! Won't be long before there's a waiting list to get in here :))
I really appreciate the great content and your "giving spirit".... the information you've been providing is invaluable. Hope you'll be able to keep the good stuff coming :)
I put your blog in my blogroll using your affiliate link....awesome trick. Is there a way to inlclude my affiliate link when sending a visitor to an individual post? If so, can you elaborate?
Thanks again,
Scott

Thanks Scott.
And thanks for the link back.
I'm sure there is a way to send to a individual post ... looks like Robert Plank has implemented this on his domain, here's an example, http://dwooding.robertplank.com/virginal-markets/

No problem Dave...
Just getting started on Linktator :( My father ended up in the hospital with a DNR...but he's doing better.
Yep, I'm sure Plank has a way. I was going to get the product he mentioned above but I really don't have much to sell myself. Besides, Plank has all my money, I have just about all of his products, you are one of a few programmers that come close to Robert (if not exceeding..hehe)the only thing...he talks faster than I can think :)
Let me know if you're thinking of implementing a similar system.
Take care,
Scott

Scott,
Sorry about your dad.
I'll let you know if I come up with a way for sending people to individual posts - with credit.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the quick turn around on my gardening site!
I should have known you offer quality service as I am one of your Linktator2 customers.
Anyway the site looks great and now I'm going to start promoting. Keep up the fantastic ideas!
